Fairy Circles: Legend or Legit?
Long believed to be superstition and legend, fairy circles are cropping back up in conversation across the magical world. Everyone knows the story: an unsuspecting hiker finds a circle of mushrooms in the woods and curiously decides to step into the ring. Once the hiker steps past the threshold of fungus, they are able to see a group of glowing fairies dancing in the moonlight. The hiker knows he is not welcome, but is drawn in by the fairies’ hypnotic dancing. His mind is charmed into joining the dance for what seems to like only a few hours. But once the fairies allow him to leave the circle, decades have passed. His friends and loved ones have all passed away, and he is left alone, cursed with bad luck, and believed to be completely mad.
That is however, only a legend.
OR IS IT?
In an exclusive interview with The Enchanter, Robin Goodfellow recounts his run in with a fairy circle nearly 50 years ago. Goodfellow is only 37 years old.
“I was in the woods near my home searching for fluttergeists to make a sneak serum when I came across a circle of mushrooms,” explains Goodfellow. “I stepped into the ring, and there they were. Little glowing fairies, dancing and grinning at me, but I could see the anger in their eyes. I wasn’t supposed to be there.”
Goodfellow’s story follows the legend almost exactly. He swears this happened only a few short months ago. However, we have searched local records and found an article in The Daily Druid from 50 years ago stating that Goodfellow had gone missing. Are fairy circles legend or legit? You decide.
